It’s been a really long time since I posted anything on here, which is not good. I’ve been searching within for an effective way to churn out quality material given the many changes in my schedule. So please bear with me through this process.
I’ve often asked the question of what makes some people move forward in life while others stagnate, and one common characteristic was procrastination. Many times we are discouraged from doing certain things because the thought of doing is much more easier than putting in the actual effort to do it. Jimmy Lyons was noted to have said that “Tomorrow is the only day in the year that appeals to a lazy man.”
When ideas come to us, and we catch glimpses of what our future could be, we have a responsibility to act. While there is so much power in desire, we need to learn to embrace the power of acting now. Every step we take and action towards a vision helps us in forming a clearer picture, and the clearer we see the more likely we are to attain to.
Here are three simple steps you can apply to every area of your life to make your desires a reality.
Decide to act. Nothing happens because we desire it, but things happen when we decide to act. There is so much power in the human will, that when you decide by act of your will, you set your whole being to be sensitive to opportunities, relationships and ideas that will help you get your desired results. Hence, make a conscious decision to lose weight, save money, start blogging, spend more time with family, and write that book. Don’t let these things remain as a desire for you to do someday, but make a conscious decision to do it now.
Write down the plan. This is also an action step because it forces you to think critically about how you are going to do what you need to do. In Habbakuk 2:2 God told the prophet to write down the vision that was revealed to him plainly so that one who sees it can run with it. Writing takes what needs to be done from an idea to an action item. Don’t just make a list, but write down a strategy. Think critically and write down possible ways for achieving. Many people fail at this because they spend time dealing with contrary ideas on why their desires can’t work. But you must change your paradigm from impossibility to possibility thinking.
Take action now! After all is said and done you must now act. Get going with the plan. It doesn’t matter how small the move you make is because the little things we do with our time compound over time and move us closer to our goals. Don’t wait till tomorrow or the New Year, rather, start now! Make use of every moment you have to do something that moves you closer to your dreams and your goals.
Here’s a challenge that if you take seriously, will move you closer to your dreams and your goals. Make a list of 10 things you’ve been putting off. It could be anything from getting a health check up, calling that friend or family member, going to the dentist, getting the car fixed, replacing a broken door knob, cleaning out the garage, starting that investment account, starting a blog, etc. Then write out a concise plan for execution, and act.
