On my quest for food
About 2 days ago, I had a craving for Thai food, to be specific, COMBINATION FRIED RICE. I mean…I was just tired of eating the same old food that I have at home (Not like it’s surprising, but I’m Nigerian, so you should figure that I mean RICE…lol…but truthfully, I have other things like okra, beans etc). Anyway, I kept thinking about Thai food, so much so that i began to hallucinate about the smell of Thai food. Just so I put this in context, I’m in the middle of a corporate fast, so it’s not like I could just step outside my condo to the Thai restaurant opposite (Ma&I). So why not just break with it? I had the same thought, but I always hear this voice saying “be reasonable…just eat at home and save yourself the cash”. Sure I give in, and I eat some indomie noodles instead or fried rice.
So today I gave in and I went in search of Thai food! So I went to Opart Thai, a Thai restaurant that’s a few blocks south of my place. It was closer to me at that point and I just didn’t want to go to Ma&I because I wanted to do something different. Anyway I get there and I ordered Pad Prik…it was good!!!! I just figured that if I’m going to dine-in i might as well do something less cliche than combination fried rice. Granted it could be because I was super hungry…but nonetheless it was super tasty.
So here’s the interesting part, I have been to the restaurant a couple of times, but I’ve never thought anything about it. Never thought it was that good, even though a couple of my friends have extolled the virtues of the restaurant. I ordered the combination fried rice to go, and both meals cost about $15. Wow! A few minutes later on my way home, I tried some of the fried rice, and it’s the best combo fried rice ever! (Now bear in mind I already had a full meal).
In the midst of me salivating and thinking how could I have missed such great value, and great taste, the Spirit impressed in my heart the words “revelation knowledge”. Huh? But immediately I knew what He meant. Duh!!! Certainly it’s not that the discovery of the restaurant was a revelation, but that is what revelation knowledge is like.
Many times we’ve sat under a teaching at church, we’ve quoted a simple Bible verse numerous times, but we’ve thought nothing about it. We’ve shouted about these experiences, memorized the Scriptures, confessed them, but really they were mere words. What if our attitude changed towards the written word of God? Like Job said “I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.”(Job 23:12). What would happen if we became desperately hungry for the Word? If we approached the Word with a craving? Like the prophet said “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty”(Jer.15:16). I can say for sure we’ll experience the sweetness of the Word (Ps.34:8), and revelation knowledge will breakout in our hearts.
My point is this: to experience the freshness of the Word every time, we must approach the Word with deep hunger. Searching the Scriptures for sweetness, approaching each verse like we’ve never seen it, trusting the Holy Spirit to unveil the mind of God to you.
Psalms 119:97 “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”

December 10, 12 2011 04:28:29This was a dangerous post to read at 4:22am after night vigil when hunger has reared its head. I can almost smell the food, lol.
Seriously though, this is a blessing. Hunger really is the key to getting filled. Luke 6:21

December 11, 12 2011 04:20:18This is very true, most times when we become ‘over familiar’ with something it can loose its value in our sight/lives….so the key is to constantly and consciously expect something new, especially when it has to do with the word of God; like you said ‘to approach it with deep hunger’.
